What are fixed dental bridges?

A fixed bridge replaces missing teeth and is permanently cemented to look, feel, and function just like real teeth. Although fixed bridges are more costly than removable bridges, they function better, are usually more comfortable, and are easier to get used to.

Fixed bridges give the patient more strength and stability because they are permanently fixed in the patient's mouth. One can expect a fixed bridge to last about 10 to 20 years. What is a removable dental bridge?

A removable bridge is known as a full or partial denture. Removable bridges are typically made of metal or a flexible material that blends into your gum tissue. Because the bridge is removable, the cost is less but requires more oral care. When having a partial denture it is important to practice good oral hygiene just the same as if you had your natural teeth. 

How to maintain your dental bridge

Cleaning your bridge will help reduce cavities and development of inflammation of the gums. The Gentle Dentistry Team recommends brushing your bridges twice daily and soaking and brushing with a nonabrasive denture cleanser to remove any food, plaque, or any other deposits.
